Suspect comes down from home's roof after deputies say he fled during traffic stop

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A SWAT scene unfolded in northwest Harris County with a suspect who climbed the roof of a home Tuesday morning, according to deputies.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said it responded to the barricaded suspect in the 6000 block of Downwood Forest, near Antoine Drive and W. Mount Houston Road at about 5:30 a.m.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the suspect took off during a traffic stop and got on the roof of a home, refusing to come down.

In an update, Pct. 1 said the suspect was on an electric bike and ran a stop sign before fleeing from deputies as they tried to approach him. HCSO said deputies deployed a taser twice on the suspect before he ran off.

SkyEye13 flew over the active scene and spotted a man sitting on a home's roof.

Deputies said the home did not belong to the suspect and that the people inside did not know him. Those residents were evacuated, deputies said.

After speaking with officers for a while, the man was seen going down a ladder.

HCSO said the suspect wanted assurance that he wouldn't face more charges.

He currently faces an evading arrest charge, officials said.
